Castration Movie follows a trans woman named Michaela "Traps" Sinclair, a sex worker in Vancouver who splits her time between seeing clients and hanging out with her group of trans friends. As the weight of the world piles up on her she decides to reclaim some sense of control by seeking out a back alley orchiectomy.
Written and Directed by yours truly, our film's cast includes Vera Drew (The People's Joker), Alice Maio Mackay (T Blockers), Avalon Fast (Honeycomb), John Paizs (Crime Wave), and Lea Rose Sebastianis and Nate Wilson (The All Golden) amongst a mix of other emerging talent and weird and wonderful cameos. The original score was composed by Aoife Josie Clements/Ravine Angel,…

it took forever to get out of the house because the polycule that imports your gray market hrt from ukraine won't stop arguing about dune. you're blasting ciggies inside a cramped RV, where your friend is living, over shitty pizza and cheap beer, commiserating over the weirdest penises you've seen in your shared journey to suck enough dick to stay alive. the phone rings. it's your closest friend, the one you got on hormones. she's a short plane ride away, but she's having a bad night. a really bad night. you do your best to calm her down, and she tacitly agrees to not kill herself until you come see her. a crt tv is plugged in next to you,…

screened the first 4.5 hours last night at Pipsqueak Gallery in Seattle for the north american premiere. i reached out to Louise to ask if i could show it, very DIY, projector on a wall set-up. she ended up coming down for the screening, along with others from the cast, to attend the screening, introduce the film, and hang out after. with an amazing turn out of local trans weirdos, including one particularly Normal individual who drove 500 miles for the screening (shout out Amber if you see this), the night was unforgettable, and perfect.
i'm so grateful to Louise and to everyone involved in this project. outsider art and especially trans freak art has always been so important to…

Haven't actually finished this yet but just wanna say that, as a Kickstarter backer of this movie, my name now officially appears on the same screen as Lilly Wachowski's in the opening credits of a movie (twice actually because we both get "special thanks" as well!). Will post my actual thoughts when the second half comes out that's all I wanted to say for now lol. Except to quickly say that it is indeed very good so far, but that's expected of course it's Louise!!!! Seeing people mention Rivette influence and I agree with that and since Out 1 happens to be my favourite movie of all time should probably say something about that but... again, when I've seen the…

"I wish for one day I could see what her life looks like."
This review reflects a screener of the first two hours of what's expected to be a five hour film, which was just distributed a few days ago by director Louise Weard to some of the film's the Kickstarter backers, which I was (am) proudly one of. I'd say something like "Take this review with a grain of salt because of potential bias.", but like, if I gave money to a production, I would certainly hope it's good, and I would have done it because I was all but certain the person I'd be forking my dollars over to would know what they're doing. I spoke pretty recently…

Only watched the first part so far but what a fucking film. Heartbreakingly real. I feel like I have known and met every one of these characters at some point in my life. It utilizes the voyeuristic direct cinema style to make you feel like you are always in the room just off to the side watching something you shouldn’t be seeing. Which is really what the best cinema is. Every character is messy, every character is human. Also the music/score is amazing. Definitely worth the 4 hour run time for Part 1. Excited for Part 2.

Castration Movie Anthology i: Traps
What we have of Castration Movie so far is wildly ambitious in its novelistic structure, treating the ugly insecurities of incels and fringe trans people as a cinematic epic, their bodies sprawling out to fill the 2.39 aspect ratio like landscapes without horizons. This low quality digital photography feels like a Brechtian means of distancing the audience, enforcing the barrier between us and the people inside it who feel as though they can't be known. For as detached as it is, it never lets itself get away with being ironic. It's a movie that finally carries the torch of what Vincent Gallo was doing twenty years ago into a full view of modern dissatisfaction.
